Why I Smile Every Day

Recently, a co-worker said to me “You always seem so happy and you always look so put together”, “Do you ever have a bad day?” “Some of us just don’t have it together like that.” And she walked away from me. The whole encounter took me by surprise and I just stood there unsure of what to do. For the remainder of the day, I re-played the encounter in my mind and each time I experienced a different emotion.

My initial reaction was shock and surprise because I thought the person was trying to give me a compliment. However, her facial expressions and voice tone did not convey admiration or anything positive, as a matter of fact she seemed like she was disgusted with me.

Then, a few hours later, anger set in because I thought of 5,000 “good” comebacks and “sassy” responses that would have been well deserved and very appropriate in that setting. Instead I just stood there with a weird smile on my face because I didn’t know what else to do.  So, what is the deal anyway ladies? Why do we do this to one another?

My life is not perfect by any means! I have problems, issues and complications like everyone else. But, I take my burdens to the Lord in prayer. One of my favorite scriptures Psalms 57:2 – “I  will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.”  That is what I do each and every day.  I go to prayer where I shed all of insecurities, I yield all of my vulnerabilities to the God of all creation.

So no matter what is going on in my life, I have no need to look cast down and despondent.  I get up, I get dressed and I smile because I know that my God is working on my behalf.

Lovelies, do not be deceived by this idea that you are being fake just because you try to keep yourself together. The Lord is our strength and the Proverbs 31 woman is one that is able to trust the Lord implicitly.  We show and reflect the goodness of God regardless of our circumstances so that people may see the light of the Lord in us. Despite our circumstances!

So, do you want to know the major lesson that I learned from this encounter? I learned that the Lord has given me the peace of God and that peace radiates from within and that is what people see when they look at me.

What do people see when they look at you?  Do you look tired? Worn out? Stressed out? Sick and tired of being sick and tired? Well my darling don’t let the world and life steal your joy!  #WAKE #PRAY and #SLAY everyday!

Great peace have they that love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. – Psalms 119:165
