Mixing Patterns & Fall/Winter Accessories
Okay I know I have said it a dozen times before but I am head over heels in love with all of fall accessories. Floppy hats, blanket scarves, coats, jackets YOU NAME IT! Not only do they keep you warm but also add an instant measure of Fabulous to a fall/winter outfit. So let’s chat about how to mix patterns and accessories to ramp up a fall/winter outfit.
One of the cool things about fall/winter is the variety of patterns and textures that you can incorporate in any outfit. Mixing patterns can be done year round but it is especially fun during the fall. Playing with different textures in sweaters, scarves and other accessories are great ways to make an outfit your own and add your own personal touch and flare. I had always struggled with mixing patterns because I was scared of not “matching exactly”. The thought of mixing things TERRIFIED me! But, my eyes have now come open to the world of possibilities that open up when you learn how to mix patterns/textures correctly!
Here are a few easy guidelines to follow when attempting to mix patterns:
- Choose one print to dominate and one as an accent
- Mix prints on different scales
- Keep fabrics in the same general color family
- Pair mixed prints with neutral colors
- Sometimes you can play with size of the patterns
Whatever you chose to do, make sure to capture your own personal style and OWN IT! Sometimes it is all about the confidence you have when you put an outfit together.
