My oldest daughter – Heaven just started her Freshman year at Vanderbilt University. Yay! Moving her into her dorm was filled with so many emotions, tears of joys, nervous anticipation, and so much excitement! It has been really difficult to fully articulate how I was and feeling and I how I am still feeling. I just cannot help but wonder, where did the time go? Geez! As we prepared for move-in day, we enjoyed a lot of bonding time and had a lot of fun as we drove around Nashville from store to store getting all the essentials for her life away from home.
I just wanted to share a few of Heaven’s quick DIY tips that really transformed her room into a delightful little home away from home! These DIY projects were quick, easy and most importantly inexpensive!
- Add lights to the wall. Okay, I have to confess that I did not think that a few well-placed Christmas lights could make such a difference but honey let me tell you – I am now a believer! I bought a box of 150 white lights from Big Lots for $4.99, we printed off some of her favorite photos and VIOLA – it took her side of the room from drab to fab in about 10 minutes!
- Raise the bed. Most dorms have bunk beds that can be slightly customized for the student’s needs. My daughter is pretty tall, so she opted to raise her bed, and set a butterfly chair under the bed to give her a cute little study/reading/lounging space under her bed. This also creates more space in the room.
There you have it lovely friends – simple, quick, and really inexpensive things that helped my girl transform her space and reflect her heavenly personality!
