Being in a “Good Place”
Lately, my life has been a series of up and downs. Not necessarily bad things per se, but just things that caused me a little anxiety and discomfort. I know, I know, as believers we are not supposed to worry, we are supposed to have Faith no matter what!
Well, keep me in prayer because as much as I pray and commit things to the Lord according to Psalms 37:5, I still have this uncomfortable, uneasy feeling of disappointment when things are not going according to my plan. Yeah, I said the “key” word – “My plan”. I am learning more and more that my ways are not his ways, my thoughts are not his thoughts. The more I read the word of God, the more I see that God is sovereign and he does what he wants when he wants and how he wants.
I recently returned from a Church conference in Columbus, Ohio and one of our highly esteemed Bishops gave me a word that really encouraged me and gave me a new perspective on a lot of things in my life. The woman of God simply told me 5 words that were very powerful and made a significant impact on me emotionally and spiritually.
She was ministering to all of the women in the building and when I came up for my turn, she said to me – “You’re in a good place” and that was it. I took it as a good thing and I went back to my seat. However, I did not really know what it meant. I thought about that statement for several days. Did it mean my life was perfect? Did she mean I should not try to do better in my life? Was she telling me to be still and not make any changes? WHAT IN THE WORLD DID THAT MEAN?
Then, one day as I had completed my prayer and bible study time I realized what the Lord was trying to show me. I had just read about Joseph and all of his ordeals from being thrown in the pit to being wrongfully accused and imprisoned. BUT, through all of Joseph’s difficulties, the Lord was with him (Genesis 29). Joseph was in a good place! Aha, I got it! Joseph’s circumstances did not matter because the Lord was with him, the Lord was watching over him, keeping him and taking care of everything. Again Joseph was in a good place!
So, what is being in a good place? Is it when you have a lot of money in your bank account? Is it when you have the perfect job? Is it when you have the seemingly perfect life? No, my lovely friends that is not what it means to be in a good place. According to the scripture, Psalms 91:1 gives us the definition of someone who is in a good place – “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty”.
There you have it, friends, dwelling in “secret place” is a good place. Does that mean that everything is perfect and always works out like we want? No, it does not. Sometimes it means that terror will come by night and arrows may be flying by day but the Lord will hide you under his wing. That is a good place! It means that I can have comfort in knowing that God is my refuge and my fortress and I can trust in him.
So there you have it my lovely friends that’s the secret to being in a “Good Place”.
